Dogs of La Mancha by Skailla Dogs of La Mancha by Skailla
Yes. it's precisely what you are thinking xD
As you might have guessed by now, I'm into Don Quixote :la:
My last deviation gave the signs, and now, this is what follows!
Some of you folks had even asked me what Sancho and D. Quixote would look like in my style (and dog form, logically xD) so here you go!

Besides the old, boring school projects and tests we had based on this book during my student years, I've always loved it. I loved everything about those two when I was little, and we even had a little sculpture of them at home (which looked exactly like this: [link]) but we lost it when we moved :(

Life sort of found a way to bring me back to those tales of funny (des)adventures, and last friday (not yesterday) I ran the whole city looking for the original translation, with the very words of Cervantes, but in portuguese. I actually found them, two volumes, the size of bibles xD

And believe me if you want to, I have finished the first volume yesterday. I have no idea how I did it so quickly, specially considering it's size, but wow. And I say, it was absolutely worth it! A lot of rude humor, of course, considering the time it was written, and full of parts you feel guilty for laughing, but Don Quixote and Sancho are so believable and likable you even forget you are actually reading a book! I like how this book makes me dream, and makes me cheer for characters.

I wouldn't recommend this book to everyone tho. You need to have some sort of taste for this kind of humor :P (the vocabulary is another thing. Gosh, ancient portuguese! It's almost impossible to understand a single word in a whole phrase!). But so far, I'm loving it!!

anyways, enough blabbing for today xD
I'm sorry I took so long to reappear here on DA, I was going through some things :P
I have a whole lot of things to reply to now! I need to get started right away!!:faint:

thank you very much for every comment and fave!:thanks::hug::glomp:
it means a lot to me!!!

So, just a few literary characters in dog form, eh?
Sedomix Featured By Owner Oct 7, 2012
I've never read that book. It was never on my reading list at school. And I'm not sure if I regret it or not... I've read a piece of this book once and it did not get to me. It was this famous part with windmills. But it's really interesting to see you make dogs out of these characters. I'd like to see more classic book characters be drawn by you in this style. It would be really great!

Yay! I love those two! But for some reason I thought that Don Quixote looked a bit like Steban O.o Oh well, it's still an AWESOME pic! Maybe you should try drawing Rocinate or perhaps the 'princess'? It'd be interesting to see you're interpritation.

Alonso Quijano, why you so crazy?
This story is awesome. We've learned/are learning about it in Spanish. I haven't read the whole thing but we have watched and read different versions. Miguel de Cervantes was a great author (:
Oh Sancho xD
D-Rock92 Featured By Owner Oct 6, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
I have seriously got to check out who they are. Really big book? Not a problem. Unless the book is exceedingly boring. Most recent book I read was Watership Down, and that took a while. Great read. Picture looks pretty good, too!
Skailla Featured By Owner Oct 17, 2012  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Oh, you don't know them? hum...
Actually, the book is slightly “boring”, because it was written back in 1605 (around the same time of Hamlet), so yes, the language is kind of complicated and not that easy to read. But it is considered one of the most important books ever written and one of the greatest influences in terms of fictional literature.
In my opinion, the character development of Don Quixote and Sancho is something absolutely amazing, so if you like stories with consistent main characters, well, this book truly offers plenty of it. But still, the humor is very peculiar, and I've known people who were disappointed when they finished reading it. But I do still indicate it, because I love the plot and the characters, and of course, it's infinite cultural value.

Oh, Watership Down? I've been willing to watch the movie for so long now! The art work truly caught my attention. It never crossed my mind to read the book tho xD I guess I will give it a try then!

and thank you very much!
D-Rock92 Featured By Owner Oct 17, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try, since I was surprised myself when I enjoyed Shakespeare's stuff, and even the Inferno by Dante (cannot spell his last name at the moment :))

If at all possible, read the book first. It explains a lot of the rabbit culture and language that the movie apparently doesn't have time to explain. And best it didn't, or it would have gotten a higher rating. It is a violent and bloody movie, which is part of the reason I looked into it, but it is very well made.

First heard of the thing in the first place when I was just browsing through the internet and came across a page about things that seemed perfect for kids until it was actually seen. Would you guess that a movie about rabbits would be incredibly dark and violent? Still, that piqued my curiousity. Lo and behold, I went with my mom to a thrift store and found a VHS of the movie. About a week later, at a different store, we came across the book. Decided to hold off on the movie until I was finished. Took a while, but I was eventually finished with both. At a used bookstore, I came across the sequel, which is a collection of stories revealing more of the rabbits mythology and a few other adventures. Still reading that one.

What really surprised me was the fact that in the 90s, Watership Down was adapted into a childrens TV series. I know it was heavily changed to be more family friendly. I have only seen the first episode, but I'll admit, it's not bad.

Wow, this explanation sounded shorter in my head.

Dang how did you read that much that fast?? I'm sooo sloowwwww when I read. For realz.
